Assin assaman: Residents of Assin Assamang in the Assin Central Municipality are calling on the government to expedite intervention efforts as contractors work on improving the area's poor road network. The community is particularly concerned about the health risks posed by the dust on the Assin Assamang-Assin Awusem and Assin Assamang-Assin Kushia routes.
According to Ghana News Agency, the ongoing reshaping of these roads has not been complemented by adequate measures to mitigate dust, as the contractor has failed to water the roads daily. This neglect has resulted in hazardous conditions, contributing to respiratory problems among the residents. Community members, led by Mrs Effia Agyapong, have voiced their frustrations over the situation.
The contract for the road work was awarded several years ago. However, residents have observed a decline in the contractor's performance this year. Mr Gregory Ankomah Gyekye, the Assembly member, acknowledged receiving numerous complaints related to the dust, which is also affecting local schools. Despite efforts to address these concerns, the contractor has remained unresponsive.
Mr Gyekye assured the community that he would persist in efforts to engage the contractor to ensure the necessary actions are taken to alleviate the situation.
