Assemblyman Calls for Gov’t Intervention to Control Crashes on Bechem-Kumasi Highway

Bechem: Mr Kwabena Kyei Baffour, the Assembly member for Potrikrom Electoral Area in the Ahafo Ano South East District of the Ashanti Region, has called for government intervention to control the rising incidents of road crashes on the Bechem-Kumasi highway.

According to Ghana News Agency, his appeal followed a recent road crash at Potrikrom, near Adugyama, which claimed 16 lives on Tuesday, March 3, 2026. The tragic incident involved an ambulance and a Ford Transit bus. Mr Baffour highlighted the common occurrence of road crashes in the Potrikrom, Nimfourkrom, and Fawoma communities along this highway stretch.

He expressed concern over the speeding practices among drivers attributed to the lack of speed rams in these crash-prone communities. He advised drivers to reduce speed when approaching communities along the highway. Mr Baffour described Tuesday's crash as unfortunate, extended condolences to the bereaved families, and urged the Ghana Highway Authority to take immediate action to prevent further crashes and save lives and properties.
