Accra: The Asokore-Mampong Municipal office of the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO) has extended support to 86 individuals affected by recent disasters in the area. The initiative is part of efforts by the Assembly and NADMO to promptly assist households impacted by recent fire and flooding incidents within the municipality.
According to Ghana News Agency, the intervention aims to alleviate the hardship inflicted on affected families, enabling them to resume their lives as they begin the recovery and rebuilding process. The provided relief items include necessities such as mattresses, bags of rice, cartons of cooking oil, blankets, washing bowls, and soaps.
Mr. Ben Abdullah Alhassan, the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), emphasized the Assembly's commitment to prioritizing the welfare and safety of residents, especially those whose livelihoods have been disrupted by unforeseen disasters. He highlighted the importance of effective collaboration with relevant institutions and stakeholders to safeguard lives, protect livelihoods, and enhance the overall wellbeing of residents in the municipality.
The MCE stressed the need for coordinated disaster-response efforts, noting that such collaboration not only addresses the immediate needs of affected communities but also strengthens preparedness and resilience against future emergencies. He also advised disaster victims to utilize fire extinguishers adequately, as fire outbreaks can spread rapidly without warning.
Alhaji Mohammed Nasir Ibrahim, the Ashanti NADMO Director, reported that between January and August 2026, the Asokore-Mampong Municipality recorded 20 fire disasters out of the 99 incidents across the Ashanti Region. He described this figure as concerning and urged households and individuals to take fire prevention seriously.
Several beneficiaries expressed their gratitude to the Assembly and NADMO for their timely support, describing the assistance as a significant source of relief during challenging times.
