It is for this reason that the National Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Johnson Asiedu Nketiah, has paid tribute to his late mother ahead of the 2026 Mother's Day celebrations. In a Facebook post shared on May 7, 2026, Asiedu Nketiah reflected on lessons he learnt from his mother, Hagar Akosua Afrah, also known as Kwaa, who died on May 2, 2014.
According to Ghana Web, Asiedu Nketiah shared an old photo of himself with his late mother, which many commenters have described as a heartwarming moment. In his message, he emphasized the enduring values that his mother instilled in him, noting that these have been a guiding force throughout his life. 'Some of life's most enduring lessons are formed long before we fully grasp their significance,' he wrote.
He detailed the principles taught by his mother, including placing God at the centre of everything, persevering with determination, respecting everyone regardless of their background, and maintaining integrity. 'In Kwaa's quiet guidance, I learnt a few things worth sharing: To place God at the centre of all things. To persevere with determination. Never give up. To show respect for all, no matter where they come from or who they are. And finally, to do what is right even when no one is watching,' he added.
Asiedu Nketiah expressed his gratitude for the impact his mother had on his life, stating that these principles have remained a constant guide for him. 'I'm truly grateful for you, Kwaa,' he concluded.
