Kumasi: The atmosphere at the Kumasi Jubilee Park has taken a calmer turn as counting of ballots continues in the Ashanti Regional NPP Elections. After hours of drumming, chanting, and a charged atmosphere during voting, delegates and supporters are now seated patiently as Electoral Commission officials and party agents collate results for the various regional positions. The park, which was earlier filled with party colours and slogans, is now calm with security personnel maintaining order.
According to Ghana Web, observers, aspirants, and delegates are all watching keenly as votes are counted table by table. The Ashanti Region remains the NPP's stronghold, and the outcome of these elections is expected to shape the party's strategy ahead of the 2028 elections. The NPP held its regional elections in 15 regions on Saturday, August 15, 2026, with the Western North Region scheduled to conduct its elections on Sunday, August 16, 2026.
The exercise forms part of the party's internal reorganisation as it seeks to rebuild its structures and strengthen its grassroots base following its defeat in the 2024 general elections.
