Bantama: Member of Parliament for Bantama and former Minister for Roads and Highway, Francis Asenso Boakye, has called on delegates of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to heed the widespread support among party members by voting for former Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia in the upcoming presidential primaries on Saturday.
According to Ghana Web, Asenso Boakye addressed NPP delegates and supporters in Bantama, emphasizing that his interactions across various regions of the country reveal strong backing for Dr. Bawumia to lead the party into the 2028 elections. He recounted instances where NPP supporters, at different gatherings, expressed their preference for Bawumia and warned against the potential mistake of not electing him as the party's candidate.
Boakye shared his experience of attending multiple funerals where attendees voiced their support for Bawumia and mentioned a Methodist Bishop who advised him against replacing Bawumia. The MP highlighted Dr. Bawumia's intellect, humility, and vision as key attributes that resonate with party members.
Asenso Boakye argued that his support for Bawumia is based on the prevailing sentiment among the NPP and the political tradition in Ghana of retaining well-known presidential candidates. He noted that both the NPP and the National Democratic Congress (NDC) have previously retained candidates who were already marketed to the public.
Boakye further explained that it would be an unwise decision for the NPP not to retain Dr. Bawumia, given his popularity and the electoral strategy of retaining established candidates. He urged the Bantama Constituency to join the nationwide consensus in supporting Bawumia and to vote massively in his favor during the primaries.
