Kumasi: The Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, has dismissed one of his linguists, Kyeame Kofi Nti, for misconduct during the Asanteman Council meeting held at Manhyia Palace. Kyeame Kofi Nti's destoolment follows multiple allegations of misconduct formally presented to the Council by various parties.
According to Ghana News Agency, the allegations against Kyeame Kofi Nti included inciting violence, denigrating the Great Oath of Asanteman, extortion, and overstepping his authority in entrusted matters. One of the accusers noted that the linguist had failed to counter an oath invoked against him in March 2026, an action considered unacceptable within the strict traditions of Asanteman.
Concerns were also raised about Kyeame Kofi Nti's lack of historical or lineage connection to the royal family, questioning his appropriateness for his role. The Council emphasized that his actions, if proven, could undermine the Palace's authority and the moral standards expected of linguists representing the traditional ruler.
Despite pleading for clemency and arguing that his actions were misunderstood, the Asantehene upheld the Council's decision for destoolment. This dismissal marks a significant event at Manhyia Palace, as it is the first since Otumfuo Osei Tutu II's return from a long vacation earlier this year, highlighting the leadership's commitment to accountability and discipline.
During the meeting, Nana Dwamena Akenten II and Baffour Amankwatia VI presented a report on their responsibilities during the Asantehene's absence, covering administrative oversight and urgent matters. Newly enstooled paramount chiefs also expressed their gratitude to the Asantehene and pledged to promote unity and peaceful coexistence in their areas.
The destoolment reduces the number of Otumfuo's linguists from twelve to eleven.
