Accra: The Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, has made a historic decision to destool the Paramount Chief of Kenyase No. 2, Odeneho Dadeako Nana Kwabena Nsia Ababio, during a meeting of the Asanteman Traditional Council. This significant move comes after the chief's nearly 89-year reign, making him the longest-serving paramount chief in Asanteman.
According to Ghana Web, the destoolment was a result of the paramount chief's actions, which the Asantehene described as unforgivable. The king openly criticized Nana Kwabena Nsia Ababio for creating a position within his traditional area without having the authority to do so, an act that ultimately led to his downfall. A viral video captured the Asantehene's harsh words, in which he admonished the chief's family for lacking wisdom.
The Asantehene's remarks highlighted the chief's defiance of traditional authority. "I warned you several times," the king stated. "You created Hyiawohene in your area. What right do you have to do that?" The Asantehene emphasized that the chief's actions were against Asante traditions and could not be overlooked.
In addition to the destoolment of Nana Kwabena Nsia Ababio, nearly all of his kingmakers were also removed from their positions for violating their oaths of office. However, the Asantehene decided to spare the Kontihene and reinstated the destooled Akyeame and other linguists within the traditional council, reflecting a nuanced approach to maintaining the integrity of the council.
