Kumasi: Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, Asantehene, delivered a stirring tribute to indigenous Ghanaian enterprise, KGL Group and its Executive Chairman, Alex Apau Dadey, during the World-Meets-in-Ghana Executive Dinner Ball celebrating his 27th coronation anniversary and his recognition as a Pillar of Peace.
According to Ghana Web, the Asantehene addressed a distinguished audience that included former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, former Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, Commonwealth Secretary-General Shirley Ayorkor Botchwey, and the Olu of Warri. The Asantehene used his address to highlight KGL as a model of what Ghanaian enterprise can achieve. He praised the company for its skill set, entrepreneurial drive, and managerial acumen to operate on a global scale.
The King highlighted specific achievements under Dadey's leadership, such as the completion of the first phase of a mental health facility for the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology's medical school, a project undertaken with the Lady Julia Foundation and the Millennium Excellence Foundation. He also pointed out the company's significant fiscal contributions, including GHS153 million paid to the Ghana Revenue Authority in taxes this year.
In addition to its fiscal contributions, KGL sponsored the glittering event. The King used the occasion to call for a national attitudinal shift toward self-reliance and indigenous investment, likening it to Kwame Nkrumah's "Self-Government Now" movement of 1949. He urged business leaders and various sectors of society to collaborate in building Ghana now.
KGL Group, under Dadey's leadership, was presented as proof of the potential of Ghanaian business leadership. Dadey was honored by the Asantehene, receiving a gold medal, a gold plaque, and a citation. He is now leading the presentation of the Otumfuo Commemorative Gold Coin and gold medal to world leaders.
KGL Group, known as the largest supporter of Otumfuo's peace initiatives, has backed the gold coin project since its launch in 2021, when it purchased the first coin for GHS1 million.
