Asantehene Advocates for Development-Focused Leadership Among Chiefs

Kumasi: The Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, has urged chiefs and traditional leaders to focus on community development, stating it is the most significant legacy they can provide in the current era. He emphasized that the time when chiefs led their people into battles is over; instead, they should concentrate on improving the living conditions of their communities, which he identified as the present-day 'battle'.

According to Ghana News Agency, Otumfuo Osei Tutu's message was delivered by Nana Adusei Atwenewaa Ampem, Omanhene of the Tepa Traditional Area, who represented him at the inauguration of 'Yim Awere Dwaberem,' a modern community center in Toase, located in the Atwima Nwabiagya South Municipality of the Ashanti Region. The Asantehene underscored the need for visionary, development-oriented leadership to guide community initiatives that transform lives. He stressed the importance of providing adequate social amenities, particularly for the youth, to thrive in a globally competitive environment. He called on traditional rulers to spearhead initiatives that empower communities economically and urged citizens to support these efforts.

The community center, which can accommodate 1,000 people, was constructed by Nana Yim Awere Ababio, Toasehene, at a cost of GHS 7 million. It is designed to host cultural, social, and political events and includes two large conference halls, an open area, 12 shops, a self-contained accommodation unit, 1,500 chairs, 50 tables, and other facilities.

Nana Yim Awere Ababio also addressed issues of sanitation, linking poor hygiene to human behavior. He highlighted preventable practices such as littering, bushy compounds, and disposing of refuse into gutters that lead to diseases like cholera. He encouraged citizens to adopt better sanitation habits, emphasizing the collective responsibility of individuals, institutions, and communities in maintaining cleanliness due to its societal impact.

Mr. Wisdom Osei Boamah, the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), praised the chief's foresight and dedication, which he noted reflect the heritage and commitment of traditional authorities to the welfare of the people. He assured his continued collaboration with traditional leaders to foster community growth and prosperity.
