Arsenal set to approve Eddie Nketiah’s loan move to Marseille with obligation to buy

Arsenal are on the brink of approving Eddie Nketiah’s loan move to Marseille, which includes an obligation to buy for approximately 30 million euros.

Personal terms have been agreed for a five-year contract, according to The Athletic, but the final decision now rests with Marseille.

New Marseille head coach Roberto De Zerbi is spearheading the move, and Nketiah, 25, is keen to make the switch to Ligue 1.

Marseille had initially presented an offer close to pound 20 million (£16.8 million) in July, which aligns more closely with Arsenal’s valuation of the forward. Ongoing discussions between the clubs have brought them closer to an agreement.

Nketiah signed a new five-year contract with Arsenal in June 2022, just before his previous deal was set to expire. Under manager Mikel Arteta, his role as the primary striker has been limited due to the arrivals of Gabriel Jesus and Kai Havertz, who has since become the club’s main striker.

Last season, Nketiah made 37 appearances for Arsenal, scoring six goals. Desp
ite his contributions, he started only 10 Premier League matches and was an unused substitute in the final six league games as Arsenal contended for the title with Manchester City.

Nketiah also made his senior England debut last season, coming on as a substitute in a friendly against Australia in October. He remains eligible to represent Ghana, as he has yet to make a competitive appearance for England.
