Kabila Criticizes Government Over Handling of Suspended GRIDCo CEO Case

Accra: A lecturer at the University of Professional Studies, Accra (UPSA), Dr. James Kwabena Bomfeh Jnr, popularly known as Kabila, has criticized the government over what he describes as 'gimmickry' in Ghana's governance, following developments involving the leadership of the Ghana Grid Company Limited (GRIDCo).

According to Ghana Web, Dr. Bomfeh expressed his concerns during an appearance on JoyNews' AM Show, questioning the circumstances surrounding reports that the Minister of Energy and Green Transition, John Abdulai Jinapor, had directed GRIDCo's Chief Executive Officer, Ing Mark Awuah Baah, to step aside. He noted that the CEO was already due for retirement in June 2026 and had been instructed earlier to proceed on leave as part of the transition process. Dr. Bomfeh questioned the rationale behind the CEO's alleged dismissal, especially given the proximity to his retirement date.

Dr. Bomfeh's remarks come amid ongoing concerns over power outages across the country and reported changes in the leadership of the power generation sector. He argued that linking the CEO's departure to the power crisis without clear communication amounts to political theatrics and called for consistent and transparent governance.

He further criticized what he perceives as inconsistencies in government actions. Dr. Bomfeh highlighted a previous directive banning official birthday celebrations, noting a recent high-profile celebration attended by top government officials as contradictory. He urged the authorities to outline concrete actions if the CEO's exit is indeed related to the ongoing power outages, emphasizing the need for accountability and decisive action in addressing the country's energy challenges. Dr. Bomfeh warned against reducing critical national issues to mere public discourse without follow-through, stressing the importance of seriousness in governance.
