Accra: The Archbishop of Canterbury, Dame Sarah Mullally, will visit Ghana from July 25 to 31. The Archbishop of Canterbury serves as the Senior Bishop and Primate of the Church of England and is the ceremonial head of the worldwide Anglican Communion.
According to Ghana News Agency, Dame Sarah Mullally expressed her anticipation for the visit on her Facebook page on July 24, noting that this will be her first visit to Africa as the Archbishop of Canterbury. She stated, "I'm looking forward to travelling to Ghana and Cameroon this weekend, for my first visit to Africa as Archbishop of Canterbury. Over the next 11 days, I'll have the privilege of worshipping with our Anglican brothers and sisters, meeting church and community leaders, spending time with young people and members of the Mothers' Union."
During her pastoral visit, the Archbishop emphasized her intention to engage with Anglican congregations and observe their community roles. She requested prayers for those she will meet and expressed hope that the visit will enhance friendships, faith, and shared witness to the teachings of Jesus Christ.
On July 25, Dame Sarah Mullally will be welcomed at Accra International Airport by Archbishop Cyril Kobina Ben Smith, Ven Anthony Eiwuley, and Rt. Rev'd Dr. Daniel Sylvanus Mensah Torto, Bishop of Accra. Her itinerary includes visits to several local parishes, including The Most Holy Trinity Cathedral and St. Mary's Anglican Church, where she will unveil a plaque. She is also scheduled to officiate a service and lay a foundation stone for a USPG project at St. Joseph The Worker Anglican Church, Kaneshie.
The Archbishop's engagements will include meetings with the British High Commissioner to Ghana, Christian Rogg, and Ghana's President, John Dramani Mahama, at the Jubilee House. She will also interact with members of the Anglican Young People Association at St Barnabas Anglican Church, Osu.
In Asante Mampong, Madam Dame Sarah Mullally will call on Mamponghene, Daasebre Osei Bonsu III, and visit educational and healthcare institutions, including St. Monica's Nursing and Midwifery Training College and Mampong Babies Home. She will also inaugurate a new clinic named in her honor.
Her visit will conclude with a tour of the Manhyia Palace, where she will meet Otumfuo Osei Tutu II and attend a dinner. The trip will wrap up with visits to the Cape Coast Castle, Adisadel College, and a meeting with Oguaa Omanhene, Osabarimba Kwesi Atta II, at the Emintsimadze Palace, before continuing her African tour to Togo.
