Accra: Apostle Abram Owusu Amoah, the Founder and Leader of the Gentiles Revival Ministry International, has claimed that Ghana is not making progress in its development process due to a single act-the swearing of the Oath of Office by public office holders.
According to Ghana Web, the country has been subjected to curses because politicians, from the president to Members of Parliament, consistently violate the oath they swear before the people of Ghana. Apostle Owusu Amoah highlighted that even God barred the people of Israel, whom He cherished, from swearing oaths due to their continuous violations, thus placing a curse on the act.
"When it comes to politics, a president, an MP, I'm talking about the whole world, whether at the White House, any Christian country, swears in. So, they promise to be faithful, rule with integrity, but they end in (sic). So, can you imagine an MP swearing before the nation and then being allocated money to serve his community, but instead serving himself and his own family?" he expressed. He further emphasized that this practice has turned into a curse, referencing a biblical precedent where God sent the Prophet Zechariah to prohibit swearing, warning that it would bring a curse upon individuals and their homes.
Apostle Owusu Amoah also noted that Jesus of Nazareth, revered as the Lord and Saviour by Christians, prohibited the act of swearing oaths. However, followers today continue to engage in this practice. "When Jesus of Nazareth, that is the New Testament, came... he said simply, 'Do not swear at all,'" he stated.
Criticism was also directed at Christian leaders in Ghana for allowing the practice to persist and for participating in it themselves. He questioned the allegiance of pastors who continue to swear oaths, despite the biblical prohibition by Jesus. Apostle Owusu Amoah announced his intention to seek a meeting with President John Dramani Mahama to discuss halting the practice.
