Accra: The Ghana Pentecostal and Charismatic Council (GPCC) has expressed dissatisfaction with the recently passed Human Sexual Rights and Family Values Bill, stating that it falls short of expectations and is not robust enough to protect traditional family values.
According to Ghana News Agency, the GPCC issued a statement to Parliament and other stakeholders, emphasizing that the current version of the Bill inadequately safeguards Ghana's cultural heritage and moral fabric. The statement, signed by Dr. Eric Nyamekye, President of the Council, highlighted the Council's dedication to upholding Christian values and the moral integrity of Ghanaian society.
The GPCC urged the reinstatement of the Bill's earlier version, which had been passed by the previous Parliament. The Council described this prior version as more comprehensive and better equipped to address the moral and cultural concerns at stake. They asserted that its previous endorsement for Presidential Assent demonstrated its legislative value and recommended its prompt reinstatement and passage.
Furthermore, the Council expressed solidarity with the Government, Parliament, and the people of Ghana concerning the Bill's passage. It pledged its commitment to maintaining the country's values, sovereignty, and the moral well-being of communities, regardless of any domestic or international scrutiny the legislative process might attract.
