Accra: Gospel musician Amy Newman has shared insights into the longevity of her 47-year marriage, emphasizing humility and open communication as key factors. In an interview on Sompa FM, Newman revealed that she and her husband have been together since their marriage in 1979, a union that continues to thrive.
According to Ghana Web, Newman attributes her successful marriage to her upbringing and the ability to express herself openly. She explained that she comes from a humble background, which she described as "low-class," while her husband's family were aristocrats, considered "high-class." Entering the marriage with humility and respect, despite the class differences, was crucial for her.
Further detailing her journey, Newman recounted facing initial resistance from her in-laws due to her background and lower educational level compared to her university graduate husband. Despite these challenges, her humility played a significant role in eventually gaining acceptance and preserving their marriage.
Aside from her personal life, Newman also shared her experience in the music industry. She took a 14-year hiatus from creating music, beginning in 2007, due to a lack of spiritual inspiration, which she believed came from the Holy Spirit. It wasn't until 2018 that she returned to the scene with a new song, marking the end of her long absence.
