Avenorpeme: The Amegavieso Stool has launched a significant five-year initiative titled the 'Greening Avenor Project,' starting with the distribution of over 1,000 tree seedlings to schools and traditional leaders within the Avenor Traditional Area. The project aims to enhance tree planting efforts and bolster environmental awareness across the region.
According to Ghana News Agency, the launch event took place at Avenorpeme and featured speeches from Torgbui Amegavieso VI, the Right Wing Chief of Avenor, and his Queen Mother, Mama Yibor Amegavieso II. Both leaders emphasized their dedication to promoting environmental sustainability and fostering community development. Torgbui Amevavieso VI also outlined future plans to introduce cashew cultivation and bee-keeping projects in selected Avenor communities, with expectations to commence next year.
The traditional ruler highlighted that these additional ventures are intended to create employment opportunities for the youth and stimulate local economic growth. During the event, stakeholders were urged to support the initiative and ensure the proper nurturing of the distributed seedlings. The tree species provided included Royal Palm, Mahogany, Umbrella Tree, Ofram, Cinderella, and Acacia.
The initial phase of the project has already benefitted educational institutions such as Avenorpeme Technical Institute and Avenor Senior High School. Additionally, several Right Wing chiefs and queen mothers from the Avenor area received seedlings during the distribution exercise.
