Manso adubia: The Amansie South District Assembly has provided support to 51 Persons with Disabilities (PWDs) within the district by supplying them with various income-generating items. This initiative aims to enhance the livelihoods of the beneficiaries and promote economic inclusion.
According to Ghana News Agency, the distributed items included refrigerators, fufu pounding machines, and cash. These resources were part of a broader effort to improve the economic prospects of the recipients and to encourage self-reliance among PWDs. Mr. Benjamin Marfo, the District Chief Executive, emphasized during a brief ceremony that this intervention underscores the Assembly's dedication to empowering vulnerable groups and ensuring that PWDs receive necessary support to achieve economic independence.
Mr. Marfo urged the beneficiaries to utilize the items for their intended purposes, highlighting that the support is designed to offer sustainable income sources rather than temporary relief. He also cautioned against the sale or misuse of the items, noting that such actions would undermine the objectives of government social protection programs aimed at enhancing the welfare of persons with disabilities. "The items are meant to help you establish or expand your small businesses and improve your standard of living. I therefore appeal to you to use them responsibly and not to sell them," he advised.
Expressing gratitude on behalf of the beneficiaries, Mr. Martin Osei Gyimah, Chairman of Persons with Disabilities in the Amansie South District, thanked the Government and the District Assembly for their support, describing it as both timely and impactful. He noted that the intervention would significantly alleviate the economic difficulties faced by many PWDs in the district and assured the Assembly that the recipients would make productive use of the items.
The support initiative aligns with government policies focused on promoting inclusiveness, reducing poverty among vulnerable groups, and ensuring active participation of persons with disabilities in local economic development.
