Darkuman: Confusion broke out at Kokompe in Darkuman after individuals alleged to be part of Sheikh Osman Nuhu Sharubutu, the National Chief Imam's convoy, reportedly damaged vehicle windscreens and commercial property while attempting to pass through a busy street where residents were observing funeral rites.
According to Ghana Web, eyewitnesses reported that several private and commercial vehicles parked along the road had their windscreens smashed, and some nearby businesses also suffered damage. The incident reportedly took place during the funeral rites for a member of the Kokompe community.
An eyewitness recounted that a Kokompe member had died, and as part of the tradition, glasses were being smashed on the road. An ambulance was passing through, and people were paying their last respects. The National Chief Imam's convoy arrived at the scene simultaneously, but those participating in the funeral seemed unaware of its approach, leading to a delay for the convoy.
This was when some individuals, described by one eyewitness as "Zongo boys," allegedly began smashing the windscreens of vehicles belonging to customers. The eyewitness also claimed that the unidentified individuals damaged property belonging to local businesses.
Another eyewitness alleged that members of the Chief Imam's convoy justified their actions by claiming that someone had thrown a stone at one of their vehicles. The circumstances surrounding the incident have not yet been independently verified. Kokompe is known as a popular hub for car repairs and spare parts.
