Akatsi south: The Akatsi South Directorate of the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO) has distributed essential relief items to victims affected by recent floods and rainstorms in parts of the Municipality. The disasters, triggered by heavy rainfall and strong winds, caused significant damage to properties, residential buildings, and disrupted the livelihoods of numerous residents across the affected communities.
According to Ghana News Agency, Mr. Daniel Dagba, the Akatsi South Municipal Chief Executive, during the presentation ceremony, assured residents of the Government's dedication to ensuring the welfare and safety of citizens, particularly those affected by disasters. He emphasized the importance of prioritizing safety and urged residents to ensure that all building projects obtain necessary approvals from the Assembly, preventing developments in waterlogged and disaster-prone areas.
Mr. Dagba also called for a collective effort from stakeholders to enhance disaster prevention and community safety within the Municipality. The beneficiaries, consisting of 389 males and 510 females from various communities, received the relief items through representatives of the affected households.
The distributed relief package included bags of rice, cartons of cooking oil, bags of sugar, Wellington boots, blankets, eating plates, drinking cups, basins, mosquito nets, and cartons of Aqua Tabs. Mr. Daniel Gidi, Akatsi South Municipal Director of NADMO, conveyed to the Ghana News Agency that the items were sourced through contributions from various organizations and individuals to aid the disaster victims.
He mentioned that part of the support came from the Volta Regional Environmental Health Office and Mr. Kwame Governs Agbodza, Minister of Roads and Highways, who provided donations to affected constituencies in the Volta Region. Additional assistance was received from the Government through the Akatsi South Municipal Assembly and Mr. Bernard Ahiafor, Member of Parliament for Akatsi South and First Deputy Speaker of Parliament.
Mr. Gidi urged affected residents who had yet to receive assistance to remain patient, assuring them that NADMO would implement a fair and transparent distribution process. He reaffirmed the Directorate's commitment to working with stakeholders to support disaster victims and enhance disaster management efforts in the Municipality.
