Akatsi Police Intercept Vehicle Loaded with Suspected Indian Hemp, Driver Detained

Akatsi: The Ghana Police Service at Akatsi in the Volta Region has intercepted a Renault Trafic mini cargo vehicle loaded with dried leaves suspected to be Indian hemp at Adeheta near Akatsi. The vehicle, with registration number VR 405-18, was intercepted on Sunday at about 2340 hours while heading towards Akatsi. According to Ghana News Agency, the driver, identified as Mr. Dodzi Ati, 32, was allegedly transporting 732 pallets of dried leaves suspected to be Indian hemp. The suspect allegedly attempted to bribe police officers with cash during the interception but was arrested and detained in police custody at Akatsi to assist with investigations. The vehicle has also been impounded for further action. The latest interception adds to a series of recent anti-narcotics operations in the Volta Region as security agencies intensify efforts to clamp down on the trafficking and distribution of suspected Indian hemp and other illicit substances. In recent months, police in the region have carried out intelligenc e-led operations leading to the arrest of several suspects and the retrieval of large quantities of substances suspected to be Indian hemp at Akatsi, Aflao, and other parts of the region. Security agencies have reaffirmed their commitment to combating narcotics trafficking and related crimes within the Volta enclave and beyond.
