Accra: The Minister of Roads and Highways, Kwame Governs Agbodza, alongside his Deputy, Alhassan Sayibu Suhuyini, has summoned contractors involved in the Techiman-Nkonsia-Wenchi road project due to the slow progress of the work, despite significant government payments.
According to Ghana Web, the contractor, VOLTA IMPEX, received around GHS66 million as mobilisation funds but has not met the expected standards of work. During a road inspection, captured in a video shared by Arnold Mensah on Facebook, the ministers scrutinized both the quality and timeline of the work, particularly the clearing of the road stretch.
Agbodza observed that the clearing seemed recent, contrary to the contractor's assertion that it was completed earlier in the year. He questioned the project manager about the actual timing of the work. When the contractor claimed that work commenced in April, the minister dismissed the explanation, highlighting inconsistencies in the timeline provided.
Deputy Minister Suhuyini also conveyed dissatisfaction with the progress, noting that contractors had long been granted access to the site with minimal achievements. He expressed surprise that the site was formally handed over only during the inspection, implying a lack of substantive work.
Suhuyini emphasized that the payment of approximately GHS66 million to the contractor did not match the level of work observed, deeming it unacceptable. In response to the situation, Minister Agbodza instructed that the contractor's Chief Director appear before the Ministry to address the delays and provide an explanation.
