Johannesburg: The African Power and Energy Elites initiative has officially rebranded as the African Infrastructure Elites: People and Projects, reflecting its expanding scope and dedication to the interconnected systems supporting Africa's socioeconomic development. The rebranding marks a significant shift in focus, accommodating a broader range of infrastructure sectors, including energy, water, and transport, while maintaining an emphasis on power and energy.
According to African Press Organization, the rebranding aligns with the initiative's 11th edition, which has built a legacy of highlighting professionals and projects contributing to the continent. The African Infrastructure Elites will now offer a platform to recognize leadership, innovation, and delivery across critical infrastructure sectors. The previous editions have featured utility executives, engineers, developers, financiers, policymakers, emerging professionals, and project teams committed to improving infrastructure access, resilience, and sustainability.
The initiative continues to spotlight both established leaders and emerging talents, as well as projects across categories such as grid-tied and off-grid infrastructure, smart and digital solutions, clean transport, energy at mines, water and sanitation, and finance and investment. The rebranding aims to enhance the storytelling of Africa's infrastructure transformation.
The African Infrastructure Elites Advisory Board, comprising experienced industry professionals like Chanda Nxumalo, George Aluru, Gordon Molefe, Ifey Ikoneu, Suleiman Babamanu, and Yolanda Mabuto, will assess nominations. This independent vetting process ensures the credibility of the annual publication, highlighting meaningful achievements, innovation, and impact.
Nominated individuals and projects will be featured in the African Infrastructure Elites: People and Projects 2026/2027 publication and promoted through various digital channels, webinars, social media campaigns, and industry events. The online library will continue to provide access to past editions, preserving a record of the contributions to Africa's power, energy, and infrastructure sectors.
Organizations and individuals are encouraged to nominate colleagues, partners, industry leaders, rising professionals, or projects that demonstrate tangible results and have the potential to inspire or be replicated across Africa. Nominations for the 2026/2027 edition close on 2 October 2026.
This year's theme, Access and Affordability Empower Security for All, addresses one of Africa's critical development needs. Reliable and affordable access to energy, clean water, sanitation, and sustainable transport is essential for economic growth, social wellbeing, and long-term resilience.
