Accra: Eight laboratory professionals from six African countries have successfully completed an eight-week training course on Enhancing Lab Skills for Infectious Diseases hosted by the Noguchi Memorial Institute for Medical Research (NMIMR) in Legon.
According to Ghana News Agency, the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) announced that the participants, hailing from Ghana, Liberia, Nigeria, Sierra Leone, Togo, and Zambia, received training in Parasitology, Virology, and Bacteriology. The initiative aims to bolster infectious disease treatment capabilities across the African continent.
The JICA release, which was also shared with the Ghana News Agency, outlined the structure of this year's training course. The program was divided into two phases: an online segment from April 20 to May 15, followed by an in-person session from June 1 to June 26, 2026. This format provided comprehensive, hands-on learning experiences for the participants.
Since its inception, the program has trained a total of 80 professionals from across Africa. This initiative contributes significantly to enhancing regional capacity in disease surveillance, diagnostics, and research, addressing pressing health challenges on the continent.
The release highlighted the enduring partnership between JICA and NMIMR, emphasizing their joint commitment to advancing global health through the exchange of knowledge and collaborative efforts. This year's successful training underscores their shared vision and dedication to improving health outcomes through strategic cooperation.
