Jamasi: Former National Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Awentami Paul Afoko, has met with other national executive aspirants of the party in Jamasi, located in the Ashanti Region. Afoko, who is vying for the National Chairman position for a second time, visited Jamasi to offer his condolences to Kwadwo Okyere Mpiani, a former Chief of Staff under President John Agyekum Kufuor, on the passing of his mother, Obaapa Elizabeth Owusu Kwaaso.
According to Ghana Web, the gathering saw the presence of several notable figures, including John Boadu, the former National Organiser of the NPP, Ghanaian Diplomat Ambassador Edward Akwasi Boateng, former Minister of Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs Stephen Asamoah Boateng, and former Energy Minister Agyarko Boakye Kyeremateng. All have expressed their intentions to compete for the party's National Chairman position.
During the visit, Afoko interacted with former Presidents of the Republic, John Agyekum Kufuor and Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, as well as other party executives, both former and current. The atmosphere was marked by a spirit of unity and cohesion, with aspirants seen engaging in friendly conversations and laughter, much to the delight of onlookers who remarked that the unity they longed for within the party seemed to be making a comeback.
The attendees took the opportunity to convey their condolences to the bereaved family, following the interment of Obaapa Elizabeth Owusu Kwaaso's remains at the family house after a requiem service held at St Michael's Catholic Church in Jamasi. Obaapa Elizabeth Owusu Kwaaso, who passed away at the age of 103, gave birth to Kwadwo Okyere Mpiani when she was 18 years old.
