Accra: Minority Leader in Parliament, Alexander Afenyo-Markin, has asserted that the New Patriotic Party (NPP) would secure a majority in Parliament if elections were conducted today.
According to Ghana Web, in a viral video circulating on X on March 16, 2026, the Effutu Member of Parliament expressed his confidence in the party's increasing support despite currently being in opposition. Afenyo-Markin stated, "If we were to vote today, the NPP would be the majority in Parliament," urging party members and supporters to remain committed and work diligently to regain political ground.
He emphasized the importance of perseverance and hard work, saying, "My humble plea is hard work. Let's not give up." Moreover, he criticized the National Democratic Congress (NDC), accusing them of misleading the public with campaign promises such as the 'one job, three shifts' policy, which he claimed included the unrealistic notion of people working at night with torch lights.
Afenyo-Markin also commended former President Nana Akufo-Addo for implementing policies that he believes benefitted Ghanaians, notably the reduction of electricity tariffs. He acknowledged the pressures associated with parliamentary leadership, including criticism and threats, but stressed the importance of courage and dedication in the role. "In this job you need to be brave because there are insults and threats," he noted.
