Accra: The Minority Leader and Member of Parliament, Alexander Kwamena Afenyo-Markin, has launched a fierce criticism against a circuit court judge involved in the legal proceedings of Kwame Baffoe, known as Abronye DC, the Bono Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party.
According to Ghana Web, Afenyo-Markin expressed his discontent during a press briefing on May 17, 2026, questioning the judge's decision to deny Abronye bail. He accused the judge of bias, labeling him as a National Democratic Congress judge and doubting his legal competence. Afenyo-Markin further challenged the judge's adherence to his judicial oath, suggesting that the judge had not properly studied the law.
Afenyo-Markin declared his intent to continue showing disrespect towards the judge, identified only as Niger, until he adheres to legal principles. He criticized the judge's decision to remand Abronye into Bureau of National Investigations custody until the case's conclusion, arguing it exceeded judicial function.
The Effutu MP also urged Chief Justice Paul Baffoe-Bonnie to address the situation, warning that inaction could tarnish his legacy. Afenyo-Markin highlighted the impending retirement of the Chief Justice and questioned if the current events were the legacy he wished to leave. He criticized the judiciary's approach, referencing previous controversies involving Justice Torkornoo and questioning if the judiciary's promised reset was being realized.
