Accra:The Minority in Parliament has expressed concern over President John Dramani Mahama's administration following an incident involving the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) at the Accra High Court. Officials reportedly attempted to arrest Manhyia South MP Nana Agyei Baffour Awuah.
According to Ghana Web, the incident occurred on September 23, 2026, when the MP, who is also a lawyer, appeared in court representing social commentator Salomey Baffoe. Baffoe is accused of abetting the publication of false information linked to the 'Ghana Jollof' TikTok account. During proceedings related to Baffoe's bail application, EOCO officials allegedly tried to take Baffour Awuah into custody.
Details about the attempted arrest remain unclear, including whether the MP had been formally invited by EOCO and the legal grounds for the arrest. EOCO has not released a public statement regarding the incident.
Videos on social media show a confrontation between Baffour Awuah and a woman identified as an EOCO official outside the court, escalating into a scuffle as the MP tried to leave in his vehicle.
At a press conference in Parliament, Minority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin criticized what he termed government excesses and urged President Mahama to ensure state institutions act lawfully. He highlighted that the Minority supports accountability but insists that state agencies must operate within legal boundaries to maintain public trust.
