Accra: Minority Leader in Parliament, Alexander Afenyo-Markin, has alleged that Justice Gabriel Scott Pwamang is positioning himself to become the next Chief Justice. He made these claims while speaking on Asempa TV, asserting that Justice Pwamang is lobbying behind the scenes to succeed the current Chief Justice, Paul Baffoe-Bonnie, who is set to exit.
According to Ghana Web, Afenyo-Markin expressed his concerns regarding Justice Pwamang's involvement in the committee that investigated petitions against former Chief Justice Gertrude Torkornoo, which ultimately led to her removal. He questioned the integrity of the process, suggesting that the committee, chaired by Justice Pwamang, concluded its report after hearing only one out of three petitions filed against Justice Torkornoo.
Afenyo-Markin challenged Justice Pwamang, asking how he would feel if a similar situation impacted his own career. He emphasized that the other two petitions were still pending when the committee completed its work and recommended Justice Torkornoo's dismissal.
Furthermore, Afenyo-Markin stated that he expects Justice Torkornoo to be reinstated if the New Patriotic Party (NPP) returns to power. He reiterated his stance, reflecting on a recent demonstration where he advocated for Justice Torkornoo's reinstatement under an NPP government.
