Sekondi-takoradi: A delegation from the African Development Bank, along with donors, visited selected projects under the African City Programme implemented by the Sekondi-Takoradi Metropolitan Assembly in the Western Region.
According to Ghana News Agency, the visit aimed to allow the Bank and donor partners to familiarize themselves with the projects presented in the proposals, offer technical assistance, and address the urgent needs of the communities involved. The delegation was taken to Bakado, an area prone to flooding, where the STMA plans to construct a centralized sewage system and develop the park as a watershed to mitigate flooding.
At the Sofokrom dumping site, the STMA introduced plans for waste segregation to control waste generation and ensure proper disposal. The delegation also toured the dilapidated Sekondi market, drainage systems, the halted Takoradi market, and the truck terminal at Mpintsin.
Mr. Faustinus Faidoo, the Metropolitan Chief Executive of the STMA, emphasized the Metropolis's commitment to improving the livelihoods of its residents and ensuring that projects and programs are climate resilient. Earlier, Mr. Joseph Nelson, the Western Regional Minister, welcomed the delegation and highlighted the importance of development for growth and enhanced livelihoods, expressing gratitude for the investment in the twin city.
The STMA plans to focus on priority projects, including waste management, car parks, transportation and haulage terminals, agriculture, and market development.
