Accra: Member of Parliament for Afigya Kwabre North, Collins Adomako-Mensah, has called on the Majority in Parliament to expedite the passage of the contentious Proper Human Sexual Rights and Ghanaian Family Values Bill, commonly referred to as the Anti-LGBTQ+ bill. He suggested utilizing a parliamentary mechanism that allows for legislation to be passed within 24 hours.
According to Ghana Web, Adomako-Mensah expressed his views during an appearance on Metro TV's Good Morning Ghana on April 8, 2026. He criticized the NDC members in Parliament, stating, "They've done it many times before. If they were serious about this bill, they would have pushed it through long ago. The fact that they haven't, indicates their actual plans regarding the legislation."
The Proper Human Sexual Rights and Ghanaian Family Values Bill was initially introduced in 2021 with the aim of criminalizing the promotion, advocacy, and funding of LGBTQ+ activities in Ghana, in addition to reinforcing existing legal restrictions on same-sex relationships. Although the bill was passed by Parliament in 2024, it was not assented to by the then President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, as it faced legal challenges questioning its constitutionality before the Supreme Court.
