Accra: The National Ambulance Service (NAS) has outlined how a rapid, coordinated emergency response enabled the evacuation and treatment of victims following the collapse of Accra New Town DA Experimental School on Sunday, March 29, 2026.
According to Ghana Web, the NAS shared in a Facebook post on Monday, March 30, 2026, that ambulances and Emergency Medical Technicians (EMTs) were swiftly deployed to the scene following reports of the incident. The initial reports indicated multiple persons were trapped, prompting NAS to quickly mobilize resources and personnel to support rescue and prehospital care efforts. Additional resources were also brought in to reinforce ongoing operations.
The coordinated multi-agency response resulted in the successful evacuation of 20 casualties from the scene. These individuals were transported to nearby health facilities for further medical attention. The distribution of patients was as follows: 37 Military Hospital received 9 patients, Police Hospital admitted 7 patients, Ga North Municipal Hospital cared for 3 patients, and University of Ghana Medical Centre accommodated 1 patient.
The NAS stated that emergency teams are actively engaged at the scene, collaborating with partner agencies to continue rescue efforts and account for all affected persons. The service reaffirmed its commitment to providing timely emergency care.
