Accra: The Accra High Court has given the parties involved in the legal dispute between the Vehicle Embossment Manufacturers Association of Ghana (VEMAG) and the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Authority (DVLA) the opportunity to resolve their issues outside of court. The decision came after a notification from the lawyers representing Original Manufacturing and Embossment Company Ltd indicated ongoing discussions aimed at an amicable resolution.
According to Ghana Web, VEMAG had filed a lawsuit to prevent the DVLA from implementing a new vehicle number plate registration system. During the hearing, counsel for Original Manufacturing and Embossment Company Limited, Prof. Kwame Gyan, informed the court about the initiation of settlement discussions with the plaintiffs. Prof. Gyan requested an adjournment to facilitate these talks, citing his longstanding relationship with lead counsel for VEMAG, Martin Kpebu.
Martin Kpebu confirmed the ongoing discussions and asked the court to adjourn the proceedings to allow for a peaceful resolution. The DVLA's legal team expressed no opposition to this proposal and showed willingness to support the settlement effort.
Presiding judge, Justice Isaac Addo, granted the adjournment and instructed the parties to submit the terms of settlement before the next court session. This case has been adjourned to February 27, allowing all parties time to reach a resolution outside the courtroom.
