Accra: A number of areas in the southern part of Ghana were heavily flooded on Monday, June 29, 2026, following a rainstorm that began on Sunday, June 28, 2026. The flood resulted in significant loss of life and property, with at least 12 deaths confirmed by the Ghana National Fire Service. Several communities in Accra were severely affected, with floodwaters sweeping away cars, people, and structures.
According to Ghana Web, viral videos of the incident have captured the attention of many, showing people stranded on rooftops and walls, pleading for rescue. One particularly striking video documented the moment a man was swept away by the floodwaters, only to be dramatically saved by another individual. Initially, an attempt to catch the struggling man failed, leaving onlookers, including a woman recording the event, shouting for assistance. As the man drifted helplessly, some urged him to grasp nearby pillars.
In a remarkable turn of events, a man who was also seeking refuge on a wall intervened. The video revealed this individual, later hailed as a hero, sitting on the wall and extending his hand toward the man being carried away by the current. Demonstrating extraordinary presence of mind and strength, the rescuer secured a firm grip and successfully pulled the man to safety onto the wall.
