Abronye DC’s Health Reportedly Declines in BNI Custody: NPP Member Raises Concerns

Accra: A member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Communications Team, Kwesi Botchway Jnr, has disclosed that the Bono Regional Chairman of the party, Kwame Baffoe, widely known as Abronye DC, is reportedly in a deteriorating condition following his detention by the Bureau of National Intelligence (BNI) over remarks he allegedly made about a Circuit Court judge.

According to Ghana Web, Botchway Jnr shared the update about Abronye's condition on his Facebook page on May 17, 2026. He mentioned receiving a phone call from Abronye's wife, who informed him about her husband's worsening health. "I've just received a 'distress' call from his wife. She tells me his condition has deteriorated significantly. She also informs me that she was only granted access to him yesterday after being denied since Wednesday," he wrote.

Botchway Jnr further reported that Abronye has neither eaten nor taken his medications since his detention. He also alleged that Abronye has been denied legal counsel, family access, food, and medical care. "It's also concerning that Abronye's legal team has still not received the record of proceedings, despite formally requesting it on the day of his detention," Botchway Jnr stated.

He questioned whether the government will face consequences if anything happens to Abronye. Currently, Abronye faces charges of one count of publication of false news and one count of offensive conduct conducive to the breach of peace. He has been remanded by the BNI for two weeks, with proceedings expected to continue on May 27, 2026.
