Otto Addo Takes Ghana Football Association to FIFA Over Contract Dispute

Accra:Former Black Stars head coach Otto Addo has reportedly escalated his contractual dispute with the Ghana Football Association (GFA) to FIFA after his contract was terminated in March 2026.

According to Ghana Web, Addo's decision to involve FIFA comes seven months after the GFA ended his second tenure as head coach of the national team. His departure occurred just 72 days before the 2026 FIFA World Cup, following a disappointing series of results, including a 5-1 loss to Austria and a 2-1 defeat to Germany in pre-tournament friendlies.

The GFA announced the immediate termination of Addo’s contract, despite him having approximately 10 months remaining. Reports indicated that Addo might be entitled to compensation of around $500,000, although this figure was not officially confirmed by the GFA. Addo has publicly expressed confusion over his dismissal, citing what he perceived as unrealistic expectations from GFA president Kurt Okraku.

In a July 2026 interview with German publication 11Freunde, Addo expressed his dissatisfaction, questioning the circumstances of his exit. His approach to FIFA could lead to another contractual challenge for the GFA, which has previously faced compensation claims from other dismissed coaches, such as Milovan Rajevac, who secured a $117,000 settlement from the association.
