Accra:Haruna Iddrisu, the Minister of Education, has been recognized by his Press Secretary, Hashmin Mohammed, as a prominent political figure from Dagbon, whose influence is comparable only to that of the late former Vice-President Alhaji Aliu Mahama. Mohammed highlighted Iddrisu's role in elevating the profile of Dagbon through a distinguished political career.
According to Ghana Web, Mohammed emphasized the respect and recognition Iddrisu has brought to Dagbon, noting his significant contributions in various ministerial roles, including Communications, Trade, Labour, and Minority Leader. These roles, Mohammed stated, have allowed Iddrisu to make a lasting impact on the political landscape.
Iddrisu's commitment to Dagbon dates back to his university days, where he initiated projects like extra classes for students, demonstrating his generosity and dedication to the region. Mohammed also credited Iddrisu as the pioneer in establishing regular weekend engagements with constituents, a practice that began after 1992, making MPs more accessible to the public.
Addressing concerns about Iddrisu's availability for interviews, Mohammed defended the Minister's approach, arguing that personal interactions with constituents provide a crucial form of accountability. He asserted that there is no better access than directly engaging with the community to discuss achievements and address concerns.
