NPP’s Nana B Questions Foreign Minister’s Position Amid Evacuation Controversy

Accra:Henry Nana Boakye, the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) Second Vice Chairman, has raised questions about why Foreign Affairs Minister Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa remains in office amid allegations of financial discrepancies regarding the evacuation of Ghanaians from South Africa.

According to Ghana Web, Nana B has argued that if President John Dramani Mahama's administration was committed to accountability, the minister should have been dismissed or asked to resign. Nana B's comments were made during an interview on Adom TV’s Badwam on October 27, 2026, where he alleged that documents obtained by the minority through a Right to Information (RTI) request revealed discrepancies amounting to GH¢16.4 million.

Nana B further referenced a JoyNews investigation that reportedly corroborated concerns raised by the minority, highlighting repeated names and signatures in the documents. He expressed that these issues bring into question the minister’s continued leadership of the Foreign Affairs Ministry, labeling the minister's actions as supervising criminality.

Additionally, Nana B criticized a press conference held by Ghanaians evacuated from South Africa on October 26, alleging that the Foreign Affairs Ministry funded the event. He questioned how individuals lacking financial resources could organize such a press conference without external sponsorship, implying ministry involvement.

The situation contributes to ongoing scrutiny over the evacuation process and the financial transparency of the operation. Nana B emphasized that Ablakwa should step aside to ensure a thorough investigation into the matter.
