Accra:United Party’s Director of Field Operations, Hopeson Adorye, has alleged that pressure was exerted on the General Secretary of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Justin Frimpong Kodua, to expel him from the party.
According to Ghana Web, Adorye stated that his expulsion occurred without a disciplinary hearing, following his support for United Party leader, Alan Kyerematen. He revealed on Adom FM that despite his intention to vote for Kyerematen in the presidential election, he intended to support the NPP in the parliamentary elections.
Adorye recounted that his comments were published in a newspaper, leading Gabby Otchere-Darko, a significant figure within the NPP, to reach out for confirmation. He noted that he was abroad in Belgium and Denmark working for the NPP when he expressed his voting intentions.
He emphasized that no disciplinary committee hearing was conducted before his expulsion in late 2023, attributing the decision to his open endorsement of Kyerematen, who had left the NPP for an independent presidential run. Adorye, along with Nana Ohene Ntow, Yaw Buaben Asamoa, and Boniface Abubakar Saddique, were expelled for publicly endorsing a presidential candidate other than the party's chosen flagbearer, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia. The NPP cited a breach of the party's constitution as the reason for their expulsion.
