Energy Minister Pledges Inter-Ministerial Efforts for Petroleum Hub Project

Accra:The Minister of Energy and Green Transition, Dr. John Abdulai Jinapor, has committed to leading efforts to resolve issues delaying the Petroleum Hub project's implementation. Speaking at a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signing ceremony between the Petroleum Hub Development Corporation (PHDC) and a UAE-based investment consortium, Dr. Jinapor emphasized the importance of addressing key challenges such as land acquisition and financing for compensation.

According to Ghana Web, Dr. Jinapor plans to engage with the Ministry of Finance, the Ministry of Lands and Natural Resources, and the Office of the Attorney-General to facilitate the project's progress. He stated that the presence of credible investors demands that the government and PHDC create conducive conditions for the project's success.

Dr. Jinapor highlighted the necessity of stakeholder engagements to eliminate bottlenecks and advance the project, which aligns with President John Dramani Mahama's vision for Ghana's oil and gas sector. He expressed his commitment to providing all necessary support to ensure the project's success.

The Energy Minister commended the PHDC, led by Dr. Toni Aubynn, for its leadership and called for stronger institutional support to expedite the project's execution. Dr. Aubynn acknowledged Dr. Jinapor's steadfast support, noting the project's potential to drive industrialization, strengthen energy security, and transform Ghana's economy.

The consortium involved in the project plans to develop a refinery with a capacity of 300,000 barrels per stream day, two petrochemical plants, storage infrastructure, and a jetty within five years. Implementation is set to commence immediately, with on-site activities scheduled for the first quarter of 2027.
