Accra:Wisconsin International University College Ghana (WIUC-Ghana) and Riphah International University of Pakistan have inaugurated a Joint Steering Committee to enhance collaboration in education, research, and professional development. This initiative follows the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the two institutions on June 15, 2026.
According to Ghana News Agency, the collaboration aims to cover a range of areas including teaching and research, faculty and student exchanges, capacity building, professional development, and the creation of new academic programs, all subject to necessary regulatory and accreditation requirements.
The inauguration ceremony, held both in-person and virtually, was attended by academic leaders and stakeholders from Ghana and Pakistan. Key attendees included the High Commissioner of Pakistan to Ghana, Mr. Najeeb Durrani, as well as representatives from both universities and members of the Joint Steering Committee.
Dr. Lawrence A. Kannae, President of WIUC-Ghana, emphasized that the partnership signifies a shared commitment to academic excellence and innovation. He highlighted the goal of producing graduates who are globally relevant and locally impactful. A significant component of the partnership is the proposed establishment of a state-of-the-art dental school in Ghana, aimed at expanding access to quality dental education and services.
Dr. Kannae noted the importance of leveraging Riphah International University's experience in dental education and combining it with the strengths of both institutions. He also mentioned plans for staff development, professional training, and the creation of jointly delivered academic programs.
The Joint Steering Committee outlined its immediate priorities, which include formalizing agreements to cover practical activities in teaching, research, and institutional development. The partnership will hinge on existing academic programs and institutional strengths to foster faculty collaboration and academic engagement.
Furthermore, the committee aims to develop emerging academic programs and jointly delivered certification and professional development programs, ensuring compliance with regulatory and accreditation standards. In the field of health sciences, WIUC-Ghana is particularly interested in benefiting from Riphah International University's dental education expertise.
Dr. Hassan Muhammad Khan, Chancellor of Riphah International University, expressed his support for the partnership, emphasizing the importance of building a meaningful institutional relationship between Ghana and Pakistan. He stressed that the collaboration should lead to tangible opportunities for students, faculty, and researchers, focusing on academic excellence and societal needs.
