Accra:Togbe Koku Dzaga XI, the Paramount Chief of the Klefe Traditional Area, has urged Ghanaians to adopt sustainable, eco-friendly practices to safeguard the environment for future generations. He emphasized the importance of integrating green technology and environmental awareness into technical education for a prosperous future.
According to Ghana News Agency, the Chief's remarks were delivered during the Yam Festival celebration in the Ho Municipality of the Volta Region. The event was themed 'Harnessing Skills Development of the Youth through Technical Education The Role of Our Communities within Government's Reset Agenda.'
Togbe Dzaga reflected on traditional conservation practices, noting that natural resources were once fiercely protected by ancestors who believed in the severe consequences of environmental degradation. He expressed concern over the erosion of these values and stressed the need for development that does not compromise the natural ecosystem.
The Chief also addressed the issue of substance abuse among youth, condemning the increasing accessibility of harmful substances and the influence of those promoting them. He urged young people to resist destructive behaviors, fight for their future, and embrace technical skills as a path to productivity and self-worth.
Highlighting the significance of the Yam Festival beyond cultural preservation, Togbe Dzaga mentioned that funds raised over the past three years have been used to build a new dormitory block for the Klefe Technical Institute. He called for further support to expand the school's infrastructure, including the need for various facilities such as a dining hall, library, and technical workshop.
The Paramount Chief appealed to the government, corporate donors, and international partners for strategic support to transform Klefe into a hub of skilled and productive labor. He encouraged the youth to see themselves as active participants in the Government's 'Reset Agenda,' mastering trades and embracing technology.
Mr. Richmond Edem Kofi Kpotosu, MP for Ho Central Constituency, urged parents to be actively involved in their children's education and moral upbringing. Mr. Stephen Adom, the Ho Municipal Chief Executive, assured the community of the Government's efforts to ensure equitable development for the Klefe Traditional Area and praised the community's use of cultural festivals for spearheading vital projects.
