Accra:Mr Ernest Ofori Sarpong, Global President of the Presbyterian Boys' Secondary School (PRESEC) Alumni Association, has been awarded the Old Schools Alumni President of the Year 2026.
According to Ghana News Agency, Ofori Sarpong was acknowledged for his outstanding contributions to both his alumni association and his alma mater. His recognition took place during the inaugural Old Schools Alumni Networking Gala Dinner 2026, hosted by the Entrepreneurs Foundation of Ghana.
In addition to this honor, Dr Ofori Sarpong also received the Old Schools Alumni Project of the Year Award for his role in constructing a new 600-bed dormitory at his former school, which has been named the Ofori Sarpong House. The event also recognized other notable figures, such as Mr Moses Baiden, CEO of Margins ID Group, and Dr Kofi Addo-Agyekum, CEO of Kofikrom Pharmacy Limited.
The Mfantsipim School was awarded the Old Schools Alumni Legacy Boys' School of the Year, while Latex Foam was named the Old Schools Alumni Legacy Foam Mattress Company of the Year. Dr Emmanuel Newman, representing the Minister of Education, emphasized the importance of alumni associations in creating platforms for mentorship, entrepreneurship, and community service. He stressed the need for students to find mentors through alumni networks to aid in their career development.
Dr Issahaque Munawaru from the Ghana Education Service praised alumni associations for their role in infrastructure development and mentorship. He encouraged alumni to be proactive in sharing their industry knowledge, stating that mentorship is a strategic investment in Ghana's future. He highlighted that partnerships between the government and alumni associations could greatly improve educational outcomes in the country.
