Offinso South:Years of infrastructural neglect along the Asamankama-Mehame road in the Offinso South Municipality have resulted in transportation challenges and increased vulnerability to armed robberies for residents.
According to Ghana Web, the road's poor condition has isolated communities from essential services and poses safety risks for schoolchildren, commercial drivers, and commuters. Isaac Oduro Dangun Alaska, the Assembly Member for the area, highlighted how the road's deterioration has hampered local commerce and made the corridor prone to criminal ambushes.
Nana Poku Ware, the Nifahene of Agyeimpra, echoed these concerns and called for urgent government intervention to secure the residents' safety and dignity. In the absence of immediate state action, Mr. Richard Agyare and his family have stepped in with heavy machinery to improve the road's condition.
The U.K.-based philanthropist's initiative, the Agyare Foundation, aims to make the road more accessible, improve visibility, and reduce traffic congestion, which robbers have exploited. James Nkansah, the Project Coordinator for the foundation, emphasized their commitment to addressing community challenges and supporting government efforts in development.
Hon Isaac Oduro Alaska expressed gratitude for the Agyare family's intervention, noting the ongoing support provided to the Offinso South community despite Agyare's residence in the U.K. Community leaders and residents continue to urge the government to prioritize the road for permanent upgrades, including asphalt surfacing and drainage systems.
