Sunyani:Johnson Asiedu Nketiah, the National Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), has emphasized the need for continuity in Ghana's government programmes, cautioning that the country's progress could be hindered if each new administration discards the initiatives of its predecessors.
According to Ghana Web, Asiedu Nketiah urged successive governments to enhance existing programmes that are yielding positive results rather than canceling or altering them simply because they were introduced by a previous administration.
Speaking at the fourth Bono Regional Ghana Journalists Association (GJA) Awards in Sunyani on September 19, 2026, Asiedu Nketiah remarked, "A serious country cannot start every four years afresh," highlighting the importance of stability in government policies.
He pointed out that changes in government often lead to the renaming, restructuring, or reassignment of existing programmes, sometimes requiring additional public resources to achieve outcomes similar to those already in progress.
While advocating for continuity, Asiedu Nketiah also acknowledged the necessity for governments to discontinue policies and programmes that do not deliver the desired results, stating, "Of course, a government must change policies that are failing, and nobody should continue a bad programme for the sake of continuity."
