Accra:The Member of Parliament for Manhyia South, Nana Agyei Baffour Awuah, has urged President John Dramani Mahama to take decisive steps to reform the country's football administration.
According to Ghana Web, Baffour Awuah criticized the Ghana Football Association (GFA) for its significant underperformance, emphasizing the need for an overhaul to allow competent individuals to manage its operations.
The MP highlighted the poor performances of national teams, underscored by failures to qualify for major competitions and recent disappointing performances, as indicators of the association's shortcomings.
In an interview with Citi FM, Baffour Awuah called on the government to disregard concerns about FIFA and take action to reform football administration, pointing to recent mass withdrawals from the Black Stars squad. He expressed a need for government intervention, stating, "Our football is dead, even youth football. First of all, I think the government should step in; we need to reform our football. Forget about FIFA."
He criticized the current situation where the GFA is allegedly controlled by a select group, urging the president to intervene as Ghana continues to fund the association. This appeal comes amid increasing pressure on the GFA, with declining standards in Ghana football and similar concerns having been raised by the president in the past.
