Accra: The Akroso Islamic Basic School has emerged as the best-performing public school in this year's (2026) Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) in the Akroso Circuit in the Eastern Region. The school presented eight candidates in its first-ever BECE, all of whom successfully completed the examination, recording an outstanding performance.
According to Ghana News Agency, the school's achievement was celebrated with a ceremony that brought excitement to students, teachers, parents, and the wider community. The students and teachers were recognized for their hard work, and the students received school bags, books, and other learning materials to support them as they begin their journey in senior high school education.
The school's success coincides with a major intervention by Resource Together, USA, an international non-governmental organization, which established a library for the school to improve the learning environment. Mr. Raphael Kumako, the Ghana Education Service School Improvement Support Officer of Akroso Circuit, described the results as an important achievement for the school, particularly since it was their first time presenting candidates for the BECE.
Mr. Ebenezer Donkor, Country Representative of Resource Together, highlighted the organization's interest in creating better learning opportunities for children by providing access to resources that can help them succeed. He expressed satisfaction with the performance of the school's first batch of BECE candidates and found the results encouraging for the school's future.
Parents attending the celebration expressed joy over the results, saying the achievement had given them greater confidence in the future of the school and its pupils. The eight students are now preparing to enter senior high school, and the school items presented to them are expected to help ease some of the financial pressure associated with starting a new chapter of their education.
