Tarkwa: A Tarkwa Circuit Court has sentenced a 21-year-old ex-convict, Kingsford Quarshie, also known as Cash Money, to eight years of imprisonment with hard labor for causing unlawful damage, unlawful entry, and stealing. His accomplice, Joshua Hammond, a 20-year-old student from Takoradi Technical University, received a 12-month imprisonment sentence for abetment.
According to Ghana News Agency, both individuals pleaded guilty to all four charges and were convicted on their own pleas. In 2023, Quarshie, who was a juvenile at the time, was sentenced to 24 months in a correctional facility for robbery. The case was prosecuted by Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Samuel Ahiabor and presided over by Her Honour Bernice Mensima Ackon.
The complainant, Evans Antwi, a businessman based in Tarkwa, discovered the crime on March 22, 2026, when he opened his supermarket and warehouse. The burglar-proof window had been damaged, and items including a TM1 laptop valued at GHS3,000.00, assorted provisions worth GHS1,927.90, and a cash sum of GHS50,000.00 were missing.
The prosecutor revealed that a Closed-Circuit Television camera captured Quarshie, Hammond, and another accomplice named Collins, who remains at large. Investigations led to the retrieval of stolen items from Hammond's room, including various food products and the TM1 laptop.
Further investigations showed that Quarshie and Collins had damaged the burglar-proof window to access the supermarket around 1:00 am. Quarshie handed a green bag to Hammond with instructions to return it to him after entering the shop. During the operation, Hammond patrolled outside to avoid suspicion.
After the operation, Hammond took the items to his residence, while Quarshie and Collins stayed behind. Following investigations, Hammond was arrested, and all items except the GHS50,000.00 cash were retrieved.
