Ve-golokwati: The installation of a free public Wi-Fi service for educational purposes is underway at the Ve-Golokwati Police Station in the Afadzato South District of the Volta Region. The initiative of the District Chief Executive (DCE) aims to improve access to internet connectivity, particularly for students, teachers, and residents who rely on online resources for education, research, and other productive activities.
According to Ghana News Agency, Mr. Ibrahim Mumuni, an IT Engineer working on the installation, mentioned that the initiative began as a pilot project in August 2026, covering three communities: Have, Leklebi Agbesia, and Ve-Golokwati. He noted that the positive responses from residents during the pilot phase prompted plans to extend the Wi-Fi signal to more communities across the district.
Mr. Mumuni explained that the expansion is expected to provide more residents with access to digital resources and create opportunities for learning and research. He emphasized that the system is well-organized and programmed strictly for educational purposes, ensuring it cannot be used for unethical materials.
The installation at the Ve-Golokwati Police Station is anticipated to offer residents a convenient point of access to free internet services once completed. Mr. Manfred Tawiah, the District Chief Executive of Afadzato South, expressed hope that the project would eventually encompass every community in the district.
Mr. Tawiah stated that expanding access to free internet connectivity would significantly contribute to improving education, digital inclusion, and the socio-economic development of Afadzato South. The project is expected to play a crucial role in bridging the digital divide and empowering young people and residents with increased access to information and educational opportunities.
