Dubai: Reliable news reaching SportsInGhana.com indicate that another Ghanaian has shot himself to fame in the world of kickboxing. Super Welterweight K-1 fighter, Alhassan Okine, clinched the World Kick Boxing Federation (WKBF) title after defeating Ben 'Red Rider' Burrage of Australia on Friday, February 25, 2011, in Dubai, United Arab Emirates (UAE).
According to Ghana Web, 2010 SWAG kickboxer of the year, Lawrence Nyanyo Nmai, who also serves as president of ISKA Ghana, revealed that Okine overwhelmed his opponent, securing victory in the second round. He remarked that the title fight was one-sided, with the Ghanaian fighter proving too formidable for the Australian. Nmai expressed hope that the media in Ghana would give more coverage to their programs.
Nii Saka I, Mankralo of Sakaman in Accra and a former kickboxer who was named the best in 2010 after winning a bronze medal at the World Championship in Scotland last year, highlighted the challenges faced by Ghanaian fighters. He pointed out that the lack of sponsors and the inability of the Ghana Federation to organize fights have been significant obstacles for fighters in Ghana.
